Greetings, new readers!

This is a back-dated post (yes, LiveJournal allows one to back-date to the future! No paradoxe is too strong for LJ!) for anyone coming by and wondering what this journal is about.

Simply put, what you will find here is writing. I write two serials, and participate every year in National Novel Writing Month. Almost everything I write finds its way here eventually.

If you're interested in reading my work (and I assume you are, since you're here), you may wish to start at the beginning instead of reading the posts in reverse chronological order, which is also an order that makes very little sense as stories (especially the serials) are not always posted as discrete entities unto themselves.

I have therefore linked all the serial instalments and book chapters in the Memories section of this journal. The URL for the whole shebang is this: http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=secret_history

Individual URLs can be found behind this cut-tag )

Feedback is welcome and can be left in comments or sent by email. I actually prefer comments (non-LiveJournal users be warned that LJ sometimes eats anonymous comments without warning), so that I can keep all my writing-related stuff in one place, but I'm not all that fussy about it.

I hope you enjoy your time on this modest page, and look forward to hearing from you.

Yours truly,

[livejournal.com profile] secret_history

:::EDIT:::

Dear new and returning readers,

I have created a website (with LOTS of help from the lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] joane) to house my writing in a more structured and organized fashion. You will now find the majority of my prose (and occasional poetry) at Midnight Crossroads. Everything that I have posted here at [livejournal.com profile] secret_history will remain here for posterity, but the vast majority of new material will appear on the new website. I will update here periodically, but it will be primarily to give updates on what's happening at the other website.

Thanks for your understanding!

I found a new wordcount meter!

4471 / 50000 words. 9% done!

The goal for today is 5,000 words, which should at the very least help me to finish this scene.

I also have to go vote in a moment. Fleh.

It's my day off today, so hopefully there will be a few updates. Bear in mind that I am writing really fast and not editing, so there will be mistakes and poorly-constructed sentences. Bear with me, this is NaNo. ;)

Hola, faithful readers!

This is the first chapter in the sequel to Crisse, des zombies!, currently titled, Crisse, encore des zombies!

Have fun!

Hola, dear readers!

I know you missed me, even though you all know that the serials are being posted at Midnight Crossroads.

That being said, I am once again taking part in NaNoWriMo this year, and I am pleased to announce that this year is the year I write the sequel to Crisse, des Zombies (Zombie Crisis!, better known to readers of this LJ as Afternoon Snack of the Living Dead.

I'm not sure that I ever posted the end of the novel here, but there *is* and ending, and thus I feel perfectly justified in writing a sequel.

I will also, like last time, be publishing the work in progress here. Like before, it will be super-extra rough, because it'll be part of the NaNo process. Unlike the last time, I doubt it will be as long, because I'm not unemployed this year. So I may not get as far in the process as I did in 2006. Still, I am looking forward to writing it, and I hope you enjoy November as much as I plan to. :)

Happy trails!

A reminder

Hola, faithful readers!

This is a quick reminder that most of my writing, including the serials, starting from Chapter 1, can now be found at Midnight Crossroads.

Don't forget to tune in there!

Hola faithful readers!

I have exciting news. [livejournal.com profile] secret_history is moving! Here's what's been going on in my head for the last few months, while I have been Not Writing.

I took a little time to try to figure out what I wanted out of my writing, and to establish some firm priorities for myself. Now that it's clear to me that I am never going to be a full-time, properly-published, "real" author, I asked myself what I wanted to do. Stop writing? Hah. Not likely. I go through dry spells, yes (writing takes a LOT of energy, and I don't have as much of it to spare as I'd like), but I can't imagine spending the rest of my life without writing at all.

What is it that I get out of writing, then? I don't write just for myself. Unlike many other people, I don't feel 100% fulfilment and satisfaction just from scribbling in a notebook which then gets shoved into a drawer or under my bed. I like the relationship I have with my readers, few though they might be. I like getting feedback (both good and bad, though I especially like the good), and I like the dialogue that springs up whenever I put up something that gets people thinking or talking.

That being said, I do want to have a little bit more legitimacy than just some random person on the internet with a LiveJournal dedicated to writing. I have seen a few websites go by with serials that have become quite popular by internet standards. So, I have decided to go the web-publishing route. I bought myself some webspace, and after some fruitless mucking around with Wordpress, I got my friend [livejournal.com profile] joane (whom most of you know) to help me build an actual website with it. I figure it'll be good motivation for me to actually work on my writing, for one, and it'll give me a proper venue for my material, complete with archives and dedicated space for each opus, rather than spread out all over the place on a LiveJournal.

So it is with great pleasure that I announce the grand opening of Midnight Crossroads. Serials will begin updating next week, and soon I will be adding in the zombie novel as I edit each chapter. After that, other works will be going up as I write and polish them.

Thank you very much, dear readers, for having stuck with me through thick and thin. I hope you'll join me over at Midnight Crossroads, although I don't plan to abandon this journal entirely. I'm not sure what I'll do with it yet, but I'll keep you apprised.

Hola, faithful readers!

We are back. Beyond the Pale will be updating weekly once more, from now on. For those of you who are newly-arrived, or who've forgotten everything because it's been so damned long since I last updated, you may find all the previous instalments here.

When I have time, I am also going to go back and link all the instalments together (basically adding a "previous" and "next" option), so that people can read it all in order.

Without further ado, I present the next bit of the saga for your entertainment.

Wherein some explanations prove complicated to provide )

*waves sheepishly*

Okay, I suck.

I have decided that "catching up" is ridiculous at this point. So starting in June I am going to resume posting installments of Beyond the Pale every week, on Tuesdays, the way I used to. If I'm extra-inspired, I'll post more, but there will be a minimum of one per week.

If I can figure out where the hell I want to go with Conflation, I'll post that on Thursdays as well.

If I try to "catch up," I'm just going to sabotage myself and feel guilty and stop writing. So! Back to square 1. There is a story to be told, and I am damned well going to tell it!

I have other plot bunnies clamouring for attention in my head too, but I'm not sure what to do with them yet.

Also, I have a new icon! Yay!

Dear friends and readers.

I suck. Work has gotten crazy this week, and there has been no time for writing since Monday. I will do my level best to get back on track as soon as possible, but I cannot in all good faith give you an accurate estimate of when things will return to normal.

I apologize for the inconvenience, and rest assured that I am just as put out by this as you, if not moreso.

Thanks for your continued understanding in this matter.

Sincerely,

Your beloved narrator

We're back, faithful readers!

I'm still behind, but not as terribly as before. Slowly but surely wins the race, and all that. Bear with me, and you'll be getting your quota of story by the end of the week. Cross my heart.

secret_history: (Beyond the Pale)
Hola, faithful and long-suffering readers!

Thank you for bearing with me here as I try to catch up on three days' worth of delay. I am going to try my very best to be all caught up by the end of the week, but I can sadly make no promises.

In any event, here is the next instalment!

Dear friends and readers,

There will be a short delay in the posting of BTP. Never fear, this shall be rectified by the end of the week, I promise.
secret_history: (Beyond the Pale)
Hola, faithful readers!

Today's installment of BTP introduces something a little different. Time to change POVs once again. Hope you like it!

Happy Trails!
