Hola, faithful readers!

We are back. Beyond the Pale will be updating weekly once more, from now on. For those of you who are newly-arrived, or who've forgotten everything because it's been so damned long since I last updated, you may find all the previous instalments here.

When I have time, I am also going to go back and link all the instalments together (basically adding a "previous" and "next" option), so that people can read it all in order.

Without further ado, I present the next bit of the saga for your entertainment.

*waves sheepishly*

Okay, I suck.

I have decided that "catching up" is ridiculous at this point. So starting in June I am going to resume posting installments of Beyond the Pale every week, on Tuesdays, the way I used to. If I'm extra-inspired, I'll post more, but there will be a minimum of one per week.

If I can figure out where the hell I want to go with Conflation, I'll post that on Thursdays as well.

If I try to "catch up," I'm just going to sabotage myself and feel guilty and stop writing. So! Back to square 1. There is a story to be told, and I am damned well going to tell it!

I have other plot bunnies clamouring for attention in my head too, but I'm not sure what to do with them yet.

Also, I have a new icon! Yay!

Hola, faithful readers!

I have finished Part 123, but not Part 124. If I'm feeling up to it, then I may post when I get home tonight. Otherwise, it will have to go to tomorrow. With any luck, I'll be able to catch up further then, and moreso over the weekend. If this were NaNoWriMo, I'd be in a little bit of trouble, although nothing that's not fixable, but since it's not NaNo, I'm not worried. :)

Hola, faithful readers!

I have finished transcribing Part 122, so here it is for your enjoyment. I have a few more hours this morning that I plan on devoting to getting part 123 and hopefully part 124 done, and once they are written I shall post them as well.

I think I'm getting back into the swing of things with BTP. I'm having to make alterations to the original story as it played out in RPG format, and the purist in me is shrieking "But that's not how it happened!" while the writer in me knows that what I'm doing is better for the purposes of the narrative. RPGs, while wonderful to play, don't always make for a tight, cohesive and gripping narrative once put on paper. Player Characters, while awesome, tend to bicker a whole lot, don't necessarily cooperate, and often wander off on their own and get into trouble, thus derailing the plot a whole lot. So that means that, as a writer, I have to pick and choose which plots I use, which plots I change, and which plots get tossed out of the window on their ear. Anyway, bear with me. I hope you'll enjoy the end result. :)

Good evening, loyal readers!

As promised, here are two more instalments of BTP for your enjoyment. After this, I hope to produce maybe one a day, hopefully several a week if nothing else. I'd like to be all caught up by the time BTP's third anniversary comes up in September. It's been three years already, isn't that something? How the time does fly. :)

Happy Trails!

Until next time, happy trails to you!

Hola, faithful readers!

It's [livejournal.com profile] august_writing time once again (my, how the time flies!), and in light of this I have decided to celebrate by posting a new instalment of BTP. I will post as many as I can in the next month, and perhaps some instalments of Conflation as well, if I can figure out where my plot is going. ;)

There will likely be other, non-serial writing as well, so stay tuned!

N.B.: Alas, there will be no updates on Crisse, des zombies! for a good long while. I'm waiting on my beta readers, and after that I will have to do some serious revising for my second draft.

Happy Trails!

Greetings, faithful readers!

Here's another instalment of your favourite horror Western, umm, thingie. I will be transcribing the next one from my notebook over the course of today and posting it later. Stay tuned!

Greetings, faithful readers!

I'm slowly getting back into the swing of things. I have an outline for the next seventeen instalments or so, so all I have to do is, well, write them. I shall do my best to post at least one new instalment a day until I'm caught up. Then, as I said, I'll move on to Conflation until that's caught up, and then we'll return to the regular posting schedule.

I shall also, with any luck, be posting at least semi-regular updates of Crisse, des Zombies! until my first draft is complete.

Onwards! )

Buenos dias, faithful readers!

Your beloved but struggling narrator is attempting to get back on track. Here's what got written yesterday. I will do my best to post one instalment every day until I'm caught up again. Then I'll start catching up on Conflation.

My apologies for the long hiatus.

Dear readers,

Thank you for your unwavering loyalty. I am not dead, and I will, I promise, be updating with new episodes of Beyond the Pale, Conflation, and Crisse, des Zombies! (Zombie Crisis!) as soon as humanly possible.

Writing is a momentum-based activity. Once I sort out the new job/new schedule woes and start writing again, you will get back-to-back instalments of everything. Many thanks for your forbearance on this matter. I am currently working out some plot kinks in Crisse, des Zombies! (Zombie Crisis!) and hope to have them resolved shortly.

Hola, faithful readers!

I am sorry to do this, but between the new job and other stuff happening around here, I am compelled to put Beyond the Pale, Conflation and Crisse, des Zombies! (Zombie Crisis!)< on hiatus until the first week of January.

WIth any luck, by then my schedule will be under control again, and I'll be able to deliver the adventures you've been awaiting. :)

Thanks for your understanding.

I have officially whupped SarahJanet's narrow behind (don't worry, new readers, it's all in good fun and very metaphorical). I have given myself a new wordcount goal of 80,000 words by tomorrow night, and I'm doing pretty well, all-around:

Zokutou word meterZokutou word meter
76,906 / 80,000
(96.1%)

I managed to update my wordcount on the NaNoWriMo website, but now it won't let me so much as look at the forums. They must be having a server problem, because all the other websites I look at regularly seem to be working just fine, including LJ.

ANNOUNCEMENT FOR REGULAR READERS OF "BEYOND THE PALE" AND "CONFLATION"

The serials will NOT be publishing this week, in case you hadn't noticed. I can't guarantee that they will be online next week either. I will be posting three entire issues of Beyond the Pale and two issues of Conflation the first week of December to compensate my regular and faithful readers.

In the meantime, Afternoon Snack of the Living Dead will continue to be updated until such time as the story is finished. I have given some thought to whether or not it's a good idea to keep it here on this public forum, as a few friends kindly pointed out that this might be an impediment to future publication. Some publishers want the rights of first publication, and consider posting something for free on the internet a "first publication." At this point, I'm willing to take that risk, in the hopes of eventually building a small readership on my own. One of these days I plan to have a website that's independent of LiveJournal, but first I have to figure out how to do that. The intarweebs are not exactly my specialty, after all. I play with words, not code.

Anyway, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my readers, both old and new, for all your encouragement throughout NaNoWriMo, and in the case of a few, since I started publishing the serials. I really, really appreciate every comment, every minute you take to read what I have to say. Without you, this LJ would have very little meaning. Hat's off to you. :)

Hola, faithful readers!

After another zombie-filled week, I am bringing you an entirely different kind of undead. BTP is on-schedule, I am proud to say, for the second week running in November. As they say: so far, so good.

Oh, look: an ambush. )
secret_history: (Conflation)
Greetings, dear readers!

As promised, here is the latest instalment of Conflation, well within accepted parameters. I decided to work on it before I continued with ASotLD, as it was the more time-sensitive of the two. ASotLD will follow, err, soon. Tonight, sometime. Can't be more specific than that: it all depends on how cooperative the characters are.

Okay, onward!

secret_history: (Beyond the Pale)
Hola, faithful readers!

We take a small break from zombies tonight to come back to BTP, which I managed not to neglect today in favour of the zombies. In fact, it was something of a refreshing change. I only hope that Conflation proves as easy to write on Thursday. Bear with me, folks, there's only three weeks left in November!

Happy Trails!

Frying pan, fire, so forth... )
secret_history: (NaNoWriMo)
I'm struggling a bit with the transition from Part I to Part II of Afternoon Snack of the Living Dead. Transitions are not my friends, let me tell you.

I can't really jump very far forward in my story, but I need to jump a little bit in the beginning of Part II to show that there has been some kind of progress. I'm stuck in the neighbourhood of 36,000 words, and I'm still at the end of Part I. I don't want Part I to be too long, though, because that just means I have to make the other parts equally as long in order to balance it out. Mind you, I can always edit out some bits of Part I in December...

I think I might do that and not worry about the length of Parts II and III as a result. Otherwise I'll just sit here and gnash my teeth. Gnash, gnash.

At least I'm not taping bacon to the cat. However, my procrastination-fu is strong. I have petted the cats and made coffee, and then one and a half cups into the coffee I decided that the batch I made tasted really gross, and tossed the rest out (I only made three cups, but it seemed a waste). I listened to Allegri's "Miserere" for a while, and have since switched to Grieg's "Peer Gynt" suite, although the slow bits aren't at all helping to move the zombies along. I think I may have to switch back to something more energetic and/or creepy.

SarahJanet is currently about 1,500 words ahead of me, and doubtless will be even further ahead by the end of the day. 1,500 words isn't a huge deal, but I do have to take my mind away from ASotLD for a while today to work on BTP, for at least an hour to an hour and a half, if I want to get today's instalment written and posted. *sigh* So very hard to switch mind spaces like that in the middle of a project, but the show must go on!

Okay. Enough procrastinating with LJ. I am going back into the breach, dear friends, and by the time you next hear from me, I shall have started Part II of this puppy. Unless, of course, the cats sit on my head and prevent me from working. I can see a malicious gleam in their eyes already...
