My wordcount meter is dead. Woe!
So I found another one, but it's not nearly as exciting:
Current wordcount: 20,573
A few days ago 20,000 words seemed very far away. I have to thank
ai731 for posting her 2,500-word challenge last night. Sure, I only got 500 words written after I got home, but today at lunch I sprinted my way through another 2,100 words, and then 500 more on my break, and then another 500 before the NaNoWriMo meetup.
Looks like a kick in the pants is all it took. Otherwise, I'd probably still be meandering around 18,000 words, convinced that all was okay because I was way ahead of my projected wordcount, oblivious to the burst of energy that was just waiting to churn out an extra 3,500 words. *shrug* Either way, I'm pleased.
(The selfish, small-minded, competitive part of me is also nancing around and singing "I'm fourth! I'm fourth!" in this dreadful off-key voice, but I'm trying to ignore her. ;) )
Also, I got chocolate and a gold star. This pleases me immensely. :D
I have an odd break in my story that I need to work through tomorrow. After going through about maybe 36 hours in 20,000 words, I now have to start making larger time jumps without it seeming really artificial. I'm also beginning to suspect that I can't tell this story in 50,000 words. I really want to finish it, though, so I may have to ask my friends who specialise in creative ass-kicking to keep me motivated to finish the novel after NaNoWriMo is over. But that's one bridge that I'll burn when I come to it.
For now, things are good.
