I hate to point out mistakes, on the chance it comes off as nit-picky, but if it helps, I'm quite enjoying it so far...
I know you're going to pore over with your massive blue pen, but if it saves you a few ticks, heres a few spots i picked up on:
Besides, what could the paramedics in the face of such horror?
left out 'do'? (11th paragraph up)
but at least they were afer than they had been.
safer?
Happy to just piss off on comments like this if you don't need them.
